Today, if you go anywhere you will know who came from St Clare’s just by their care. My daughter worked at St. Clare’s for over 30 yrs. The financial strain is real. Give these people what is rightfully theirs, these are not good actions towards men specially coming from a Church. I worked at St Clare's for years and will never collect any of the retirement funds due me. Taking pensions from people who have chosen to give a significant part of their lives working and helping others is a low act. Shameful! these employees deserve what they have EARNED!!!!!! It is a reprehensible injustice. Both of my parents worked for St. Clares the majority of their lives. It's not fair to these hard working people. This is awful way to treat all these health care workers that devoted their careers to st Clare’s hospital. A "religious exception" was used to avoid paying insurance that would have protected these pensions - but the Catholic church now doesn't want to hear about it. We are committed to making our facility a safe place for care. This is crazy, & outrageous, these people have given their service to the community with little or no sleep. The reason St Clares could not fund its pension is because we were predominantly taking care of the indigent & elderly Schenectady communities at low revenue rates. The Legal Aid Society of Northeastern NY (LASNNY), AARP Foundation; Legal Services of NYC-Brooklyn Legal Services; and David Pratt jointly filed the action on behalf of a group of former nurses, orderlies, laboratory technicians, clerical and housekeeping staff, and others who worked for years— in many cases, decades—at St. Clare’s Hospital of Schenectady, New York, a part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany. This is an outrageous abuse of caring, compassionate nurses and other health care professionals who dedicated years to caring for those in need in the Schenectady. It should be illegal to diminish benefits that have been promised and earned through hard work. The markets have been doing nothing but gaining. Someone is responsible for the pension plan. My grandmother worked for them for many years and deserves her pension. People that work for a pension need to get their benefits. If this was a Corp doing this, it would be insane and head line news! What is this world coming to? The church is suppose to be an advocate for us. These hard working nurses and staff members who dedicated their lives to helping and healing others, should not only get their well deserved pensions but severence pay too. I worked at St. Clare’s for a few years and was amazed by the standard of Excellence upheld there. And who were the pension administrators? isn't that what Jesus would have wanted? The staff was always very knowledgeable . Absolutely a disgraceful thing to happen to employees that worked their whole life expecting to receive a pension just to have it taken away. My dad was Michael Spector, he would have fought for his nurses to get what they deserve, please make sure the nurses and all staff get their deserved pension in return for all their hard work! Hope the Catholic Church will meet their pension fund obligations to help these excellent hospital workers. not a Religion of the Bible. Having been a patient at St. Clare’s Hospital many times, including the birth of our two sons, I can attest to the wonderful care I received each time. Fix this now. Everyone claims. All those that caused this "underfunding" should be brought to bear and made responsible. "I am innocent of this man's blood, It is your responsibility!". To abruptly terminate these former employees pensions is egregious. The pensioners are not the ones who mismanaged the funds, they deserve what they worked so hard for! How can you treat people this way? No excuses! Maybe pay the administration a little less so they know what reality is like and there would be situations like this. Now many former dedicated healthcare workers are faced with difficult life choices because of this. Cut the shit and give the people their pensions. Breaking faith re pension = bad faith = not living the faith. What St Clares is doing is a disgrace. I agree that the diocese does have a responsibility to cover this. Hospital Affiliations * = sees patients at hospital. I will survive this but am more than a little concerned for those less fortunate. This needs to be rectified. This situation should be investigated by the State, the County and the City. To think those employees are in jeopardy now is heartbreaking. I stand with the former employees of St. Claire’s Hospital! A woman I know did 29 years here, i respectfully request she get her pension. please help these dedicated retirees present and future. NY State & Albany Diocese should step up and help these individuals that earned this benefit worked tirelessly most of their adult lives! It was hard enough seeing the anguish on peoples faces when St. Clare’s closed it’s doors. They worked long hours and holidays and stayed loyal to the hospital. Where did all the money that was put aside for our retirement go? Employees were promised a pension and depended on it.Where did the money go? So many people dedicated their time, care, & lives to Saint Clare’s. This needs to be rectified! I can't believe you would do this to your dedicated employees. We were stunned that this was announced to us so casually, as though it was acceptable. Pray you hear our voices.
